ECO-VISION FOR MICHES & PEDRO SANCHEZ

Our Eco-tours from Miches & Pedro Sanchez are for people who want to experience Sun and Beach, adventourous excursions into Nature, as well as local Dominican culture!

We'll take you up into the hills by foot, carrying a backpack, admiring a huge waterfall, jumping over stones to cross small rivers, or walking through the mud of a soaking-wet meadow or hiking on goat paths to discover deep Caves on the mountain crest. Midway we'll have a rest at a wonderful spot, to overlook a marvelous Panorama, to breathe fresh mountain air and to enjoy some unique "Vista del Valle"- moments.

And after such Adventures in Pedro Sanchez, we just spend a day or two at the nearby Beach of Miches to hang out and relax.

Don't worry, we take ordinary people (with or without a great deal of experience in the outdoors) to the most scenic and rewarding sites of this only official "Ecological Corridor" in the Northeastern part of the Dominican Republic, between El Seybo, Pedro Sanchez and Miches. Interested ? We welcome clients from all over the world - we are a small company, thus we have the focus & flexibility to work with you and to make your vacation here satisfactory. The more theoretical portion of our ecotourism and the sustainable development strategy in the meantime is supported by 4 universities (South Florida, New York, Sevilla and INTEC), as well as from the presidential commission for the Millenium Goals (COPDEC).

ECO-GUIDELINES
Buy locally made souvenirs, whenever possible. Support locally owned, private- and community operated tourism initiatives. All our tours are endorsed by local people. Always ask before photographing people (or videotaping them). If you don't speak the language, a smile and gesture will be understood. Don't give money or sweets to children. It encourages begging and demeans the child. Respect local etiquette. It will earn you respect. In Pedro Sanchez, loose and lightweight clothes are preferable to revealing shorts, skimpy tops or tight fitting wear. Please wear bathing suits when swimming in rivers near community. Learn a little of the local language, history and current affairs of the country. It prevents misunderstandings and you will get more out of your visit.

COMMUNITY SPIRIT

We also do community work. The local CTC (Centro Technologico y Comunitario) is setting up a new library for the village, using books supplied or donated from our guests. With your help, we can donate a washing machine for a lady without income in the village and she will then run her own laundry business. As well as doing the laundry for us and our guests, she could also provide a service for the villagers.

Or sponsoring a typical village band, by helping towards the cost of a guitar or drum needed, and then showcase them occasionally to present typical Dominican music ( Atabales, Bachata & Merengue).

What we expect from our Guests:
We expect our guests to be real "Eco-Tourists", in the sense of the word usually defined as follows: "Responsible traveler who conserves natural environments and sustains the well-being of local people." As such you are welcome here. For our guests in Miches and Pedro Sanchez, responsible travel is simply: treating others with the same respect you would ask for in your own community. While tourism officials have branded famous "Destinations" - here you are in fact simply entering someone else's home. Please behave accordingly.

WE AIM TO:
* disperse the positive aspects and minimize the negative impacts of tourism.
* systematically allocate income among the local inhabitants of the village
* provide guests an intimate stay without overburdening the village or their resources.
* support sustainable and responsible tourism that ensures just returns to the community.
* promote and preserve the culture and values of local peoples
* protect and respect both the environment and the quality of village life through controlled tourism, and by educating visitors and residents alike about the unique natural surroundings with which they interact.
